Nurse Practitioners

Katie Wilson joined our team as a Practice Nurse on 1st December 2015.  She is based in the Treatment Room at the Surgery.  She is available for appointments for:

  • Annual and six-monthly reviews of long term conditions: Hypertension, coronary heart disease, heart failure, atrial fibrillation, diabetes, stroke/TIA, peripheral arterial disease, asthma, COPD, kidney disease, rheumatoid arthritis. 
  • Palliative care
  • Health Promotion: smoking cessation, weight control, healthy lifestyle
  • Ear Care and syringing
  • Blood tests
  • Warfarin monitoring
  • ECGs
  • Cardiac Event Monitoring
  • Wounds, dressings and leg ulcers
  • Vaccinations
  • Removal of Stitches

She will progress to being able to see patients with:

Minor Ailments

  • Coughs, colds. chest infections, bronchitis
  • Hay Fever
  • Mild exacerbation of asthma
  • Fever
  • Stomach ache, vomiting, diarrhoea, constipation
  • Ear, nose and throat infections
  • Eye infections

Genito-urinary problems

  • Urine infections
  • Thrush

Skin complaints

  • Eczema, dermatitis
  • Skin infections and fungal infections
  • Rashes
  • Nappy rash
  • Inspect bites
  • Scabies and head lice
  • Allergic reactions

Musculoskeletal problems

  • Sprains & strains
  • Back Pain
  • Minor head injury

Other

  • Cervical Smears
  • STIs
  • Contraception

Please note that the Nurse Practioner cannot:

  • Interpret results
  • Issue sick notes
  • Order X-rays or scans
  • Prescribe items outwith the Nurse Prescriber's Formulary

 

Katie Wilson

Katie Wilson joined our team as a Nurse Practioner from 1st December 2015.  Katie was our District Nurse/Midwife and has subsequently worked as Smoking Cessation Adviser, Cardiac Specialist Nurse & Macmillan Nurse.  She is also a qualified Nurse Prescriber and Family Health Nurse and is currently studying for an MSc.  She is highly qualified and experienced and will be a very valuable addition to our team.  She is based in the treatment room and will be available for appointments and home visiting if appropriate.  She will work alongside the existing team of district nurses, doctors and office staff.
